Lil Wayne is currently fighting a war to get out of his Cash Money Records contract, and plenty of that frustration and anger spills out onto his latest mixtape Sorry 4 The Wait 2.
The project arrived on Tuesday night, and it’s meant to tide over until his oft-delayed Tha Carter V is released. At this point, Wayne is done with all pretenses, claiming that he’s responsible for Cash Money’s success and now he wants to be paid his proper dues.
The mixtape’s opening track “Coco” is probably the most vicious of them all, with pretty much the entire track dedicated to the falling out with Birdman.
“I’m sorry for the wait…Tha Carter gon’ be late so I cooked up a tape,” Wayne spits. “The garden’s full of snakes so I had to escape.”
And even though he’s not on good terms with Baby, he’s still got two of the hottest rappers in the game, “I ain’t trippin’, I got Barbie, I got Drake too.”
That said, he’s taking full responsibility for Cash Money’s success, especially after the label’s first round of stars like Juvenile, Turk and producer Mannie Fresh left years ago. “Who kept this sh-t together? N—a me, that’s who/ Who was there when n—as left? N—a me/That’s who,” he raps. “Cash Money is an army, I’m a one man army.”
And don’t even think about calling him Birdman’s son anymore. “Birdman Jr? More like Ugly Duckling.”
“All I got is Young Money, no more Cash, n—a,” he continued, later adding, “The day you met me is when hell froze/ On the day I left is when it thawed out/ I’m still in the buildin’, I just have to knock a couple walls down.”
Tunchi is basically tired of talking and just wants his money, “It’s compensation over conversation/ Lord I must got blurry vision, a n—‘s got two faces.”
On “Sh!t (remix),” the New Orleans native reiterates that he’s feeling like a prisoner, just like he initially said in those December tweets. “Did my time in Cash Money, time served and released/ but this agent ain’t free, word, that’s the word on these streets.”
Trap House” includes some chest puffing, as he declares himself to be one of the greatest: “Tunechi bigger than Elvis Presley/Young Money was my best investment, going harder than my predecessor/I don’t break records, I set records.”
Not every track is laced with Cash Money troubles, but on songs like “Hot N—a,” he still throws in a few lines at the end as a reminder: “No Cash Money, just Young Money sh–/Woah, got me on my Young Money sh–.”

But then there’s “U Guessed It,” where he addresses Birdman directly, before the tape ends. “I couldn’t be Jr. for ever,” he spits. “I don’t mean to ruffle your feathers/ But I had to spread my wings, ain’t trying to get lemon peppered.”
So, now you know how Wayne really feels. When we asked him about Tha Carter V release date last year, he seemed a bit confused, but didn’t hint at label trouble.
